Amazon Fire Phone shipment starts today. Amazon has already announced that it will start shipping its first ever smartphone on Friday, July 25th. And so it did. Amazon describes its Fire Phone as the only smartphone with Dynamic Perspective, Firefly, Mayday and more features.
Amazon Fire Phone is exclusively available via AT&T. And to beat all of its rival smartphone makers, Amazon is now offering the Fire Phone for $0 down with 2 year service agreement. And for a limited time, Prime Benefits worth $99 are also offered free for a full year.
The $99 Prime Benefits that are offered free include "unlimited streaming and downloads of tens of thousands of popular movies and TV episodes with Prime Instant Video, over one million songs and hundreds of playlists with the all-new Prime Music, over 500,000 books to borrow for free with the Kindle Owners' Lending Library, and FREE Two-Day Shipping on millions of items."
However, Amazon will apply normal data charges to users of free Amazon Prime only when they access Prime Instant Video, Prime Music and other digital content over mobile network.
Also, the price of the handset varies with storage capacity and type of service agreement. 32GB and 64GB storage versions of the Fire Phone are available with unlimited cloud-based photo storage.
AT&T is offering two types of service plans i.e. Individual Plan and Family Plan for both storage versions of the Fire Phone. On-contract price of 32GB Fire Phone varied from $0 to $199. And its off-contract price is $649 at Amazon.com.
And Amazon also states that the price of its 32GB version is same as that of other brands 16GB smartphones. 64GB version of Amazon Fire Phone is now available via AT&T at prices ranging from $0 to $299. However, the full price of this version is $749 without any service plan.
Amazon Fire Phone specs include a quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 4.7-inch 720p HD display screen with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels, 2GB RAM, a 13MP camera at back with OIS and LED flash, 2.1MP camera at front and dual stereo speakers.
And this Fire Phone also includes 4 additional low-power camera at four corners that track the user’s head movements to create 3D effects and motion gestures using an array of common connectivity sensors.
Amazon Fire Phone runs Fire OS 3.5.0 which is a forked Android version. It has a non-removable 2400 mAh battery that provides up to 22 hours of talk time and up to 285 hours of stand-by time. The weight of this smartphone is 160 grams while its dimensions are 140 x 66 x 9 mm.
