Scarlett Johansson plays a super-heroine in the latest flick on the scene…that is “Lucy”. And guess who is to be her costar? Why, it is none other than good old Morgan Freeman.
Scarlett is a female with tenfold the IQ of an ordinary woman. Now that is very intelligent indeed! In fact, it is more along the lines of a brainiac. The film is slated to break box office records.
It has already grossed $2.7 million thereby trumping Hercules which has Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock starring in it. If the blockbuster movie continues to score high with the audience, it may go on to make a record as far as films with strong female characters are concerned.
And it is action-packed to boot so all the adrenaline junkies will get their fill no matter what. Scarlett Johansson is among a limited coterie of sirens of Hollywood who can achieve such fame on the basis of guts and gorgeousness alone.
According to ABC News, ""Lucy" devolves into something that doesn’t make much sense. The good news is it starts out well and since it’s less than 90 minutes long, you won’t feel like you’ve wasted your time on a mindless second and third act."
The actresses who have played babes with a badass attitude include Jennifer Lawrence of Hunger Games fame. Then there was Kate Beckinsale who was in the Underworld Series and made her mark too.
Who can forget Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2? And then there is Angelina Jolie who appeared in such hits as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Salt and Wanted.
Finally two more need to be added to the limited list: Uma Thurman in Kill Bill and Sigourney Weaver in Alien. And that covers them all! There are no more.
Most of the rest of the films with superwomen characters have always bombed at the box office. Elektra and Catwoman starring Jennifer Garner and Halle Berry respectively didn’t do too well.
The unique thing about Johansson is that she is the central character in the film instead of having been relegated to the sidelines. Scarlett’s previous Black Widow character was very powerful and full of spunk. And in The Avengers she also had quite a prominent role.
Scarlett had played the damsel in distress until now in such films as the Sofia Coppola-directed “Lost in Translation” and Girl with a Pearl Earring. But now she has entered her prime and she is not looking back.
According to the Time, Scarlett Johansson has "made a point throughout her career to choose pretty complex roles, working with directors like Woody Allen and Christopher Nolan and opting for lower-budget projects like Don Jon and Under Her Skin, when she could turn on her charm and have an easy road to rom-con stardom."
Lucy has her so intelligent that she can win a battle with the simple raising of an eyebrow. Scarlett has personality and she knows it. And with the ever-so cool Morgan Freeman as her sidekick, the movie is definitely worth watching.
