New supply chain analysis suggest that there will be no Sapphire Cover Glass on the iPhone 6.
The much hyped sapphire glass cover for the iPhone 6 might turn out as completely wrong. A new report from LEDinside analyzing the sapphire ingot prices. There is just no movement and prices have even fallen this month. Small sapphire glasses will still be used in the new iPhone 6 for the camera and the fingerprint sensor, but there is no indication that there are high quantities of larger sapphire glasses being produced.
LEDinside did also not discover any indication weather Apple will use sapphire cover glass on the iWatch. The reasons for the lack of larger sapphire glasses is the low yield rate.
So the iPhone 6 sapphire glass cover panels we saw so far might just be test samples and will be not available in mass production. The video below showing an alleged iPhone 6 sapphire cover glass has received wide attention three weeks ago collecting over 6m views so far.
