While no one has been apprehended so far and Cliff himself has denied any substance to the charges, the search is underway for any evidence of the wrongdoing.
A teenage boy under 16 was supposed to have been sexually molested. And the event took place a long time ago. The mid 80s is the era when the crime occurred.
The Reverend Billy Graham had been invited to the event too way back then. "The search in Sunningdale was carried out by South Yorkshire Police," which told the BBC that "it did not force entry to the property."
"The investigation is not connected to Operation Yewtree and police said officers from that operation - set up by the Metropolitan Police to investigate hundreds of allegations in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal - had been notified."
According to BBC, "Eight plain-clothed police officers in five unmarked cars arrived to conduct the search which ended at about 15:30 BST."
Sir Cliff Richard, 73, has complained that the police were given directions in advance regarding the investigation of his property whereas he himself was not given any notice. This according to him was unfair.
The presence of journalists and members of the press including paparazzi outside his property was especially worrying for Cliff. He has however promised to cooperate fully with the authorities.
But under no circumstances is he giving any interviews. Cliff Richard is the most famous songsters to come out of the UK after the Beatles. He has sold a record number of albums and his songs are greatest hits.
Knighted in the mid 90s, he is a very devout Christian. But the fact is that before he converted to Christianity, Cliff Richard was an extremely sexy person and an extroverted exhibitionist to boot.
The conversion may have forced him to change his habits for good but what went before the good change is questionable and doubtful. Many of our stars have past sins that they later on cover up and don’t like to discuss lest they get in trouble with the law.
That Cliff Richard was a libertine before his about-face stance means that what appears to be a squeaky clean attitude was preceded by every act known to man. However, he has denied any relation to the sexual abuse of the 16 year of boy and says that he is innocent until proven guilty.
