MythBusters is making a turn to a new era for the popular TV show after Thursdays announcement that a shakeup was occurring for the cast.
Kari Byron, Tory Belleci and Grant Imahara are leaving the series. Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman announced the fan-favorites would depart the show at the end of the Thursday, Aug. 21 episode of the hit Discovery program.
"I guess you guys are finding out the news right about now. After a decade of the MythBusters, we are no longer with the show," Kari said in a series of tweets. "Thank you to all the fans who have supported us. The show is taking a new direction. It was an amazing run. I learned so much about myself and the world. I love you all @MythBusters. I am sad for an ending but there will be exciting new adventures for us."
"Thanks @MythBusters for allowing us to teach science in a whole new way," Grant shared. "Also, explosions. Now, on to the next adventure!"
Adam shared the photo of the crew above and thanked his cohorts. ".@KariByron, @grantimahara & @ToryBelleci, it's been a pleasure to not only work with you but call you our friends," he tweeted.
The next set of projects for the trio have yet to be announced, but Imahara did win an award last weekend at the Geekies Award Show for his performance in the Web series "Trek Continues" while encouraging girls to take an interest in STEM (that is, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects.
Discovery has released the following statement: “Kari, Tory and Grant have been an incredibly important part of MythBusters for over a decade. From explosions to car crashes to even more explosions, this trio has helped shape MythBusters into the Emmy-nominated series it is today. Everyone at Discovery wants to thank them for their tireless work busting almost 1000 myths, and we wish them all the best on their future endeavors.”
Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman will resume as the show's only hosts for the 2015 season.
