This is hilarious. Apple's free gift to all iTunes users was almost a complete PR disaster as many users did not want that present.

Apple surprised at the end of the keynote with the announcement to give every iTunes user the new U2 album Songs of Innocence for free. At this point we did not know that Apple just added the album to everybody's account as purchased. Personally I have not figured out to actually download the album at first glance. I also do not care as U2 has lost me years ago.

Many other iTunes users have though gone mad on social networks last week complaining about the forced gift of U2. They do not want to have anything to do with U2 and don't want their album on their account. It actually turned out to not be easy to get rid of it.

Now Apple has released a tool to delete the U2 Album from your account. If you have figured out to download it or have set your iTunes to automatic download you still have to remove the files manually.

To access the Songs of Innocence removal tool visit the Apple support site here.

The U2 album is free to everyone until October 13, 2014, and will be available for purchase after that date.

I am pretty sure this was the last time Apple is giving away an album on iTunes for free.
