A White House shooting, which took place in 2011, provoked an angry response from President Obama and his family.

The performance of the Secret Service with regard to a 2011 White House shooting was pathetic and led to a chiding by President Obama. The seven bullets that got lodged in the outer façade of the Presidential estate were pointed out to the First Lady by someone other than the Secret Service.

And that too occurred only a long time after the actual fact. The incident took place on November 11th, 2011. A man named Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez shot bullets at the White House from the safety of his car.

Then there was the recent event of a man with a knife who managed to skip the White House fence and almost make it inside the building before he was stopped. The capabilities of the Secret Service to protect the President and his family have been put into serious questioning.

The details of the 2011 shooting got bogged down in confusion after the Secret Service first thought that the damage to the White House was due to a construction vehicle that had backfired.

Then they thought that opponents in gang warfare had shot at each other and some stray bullets had landed on the outer structure of the White House. It was only later on that Ortega-Hernandez was accosted and held in custody for the crime.

The bullets were reported by an usher to Michelle Obama who had just come back from a trip to Hawaii. She proceeded to shout at one of the members of the Secret Service so loudly that her voice could he heard from a long way off.

And later on when the President himself arrived home he was quite angry as well as visibly upset. The Secret Service needs to get its act together. It is known for slipping up and was even involved in a shameful incident of a prostitution scandal once when they visited Colombia before the president’s arrival there.
