The West Wing's writer Jon Robin Baitz has written the script of this NBC series. According to EW, The Slap is “a complex family drama that explodes from one small incident where a man slaps another couple’s misbehaving child.”
Although the slapping incident is small, it causes quite a lot of controversy in the family. As a result of this dispute, the family breaks down, a lawsuit is filed and secrets get exposed.
NBC has already booked Mary-Louise Parker, Brian Cox, Peter Sarsgaard and Zachary Quinto for The Slap. Now Thandie Newton and Melissa George will also be a part of this short drama.
Melissa George will play the role of the mother of the misbehaving kid. She has already worked in The Slap's Australian version. Rosie is the name of her role that she is set to play in the NBC miniseries.
According to THR, Rosie is described as “Gary’s hippie wife and mother to 5-year-old Hugo on whom she lavishes smothering affection. Defensive about her decision to keep Hugo at home rather than send him to preschool, she is a meddlesome mom, scolding the older children whom she thinks are bullying her precious son.”
Zachary Quinto will play the role of Rosie's husband, Gary. As for Thandie Newton, she will play the role of a mother of two kids named Aisha. Hector is the name of her husband whose role will be played by Peter Sarsgaard.
Aisha is a well organized lady and she is the one who throws the birthday party for husband Hector. But the unexpected arrival of her in-laws at the party irritates her and eventually spoils the entire evening.
On the arrival of her in-laws, she says to her husband, “We’re just very busy and tired people with two kids and a houseful of agitated guests.” And during the party, the incident of Hugo's slapping sparks the feud. You have to watch the drama to see Rosie's angry response after the incident that eventually broke the family apart.
