“I’m a big Condoleezza Rice fan.”

The college football playoff selection committee is due to release its first top twenty-five poll later on Tuesday evening.  The committee itself is meeting in the Dallas area to prepare for their votes on how the poll should go for each team they select, and former Clemson coach Tommy Bowden said on Monday that one person shouldn't be there.

Bowden believes that Condoleezza Rice shouldn't be a member of the selection committee due to her lack of experience with football as a whole.  He feels since she's never played, coached, or managed a team that she has no rightful qualification for having a seat.

“If the selection committee wants to get it right, and find the most knowledgeable people about the sport of football, go get people who played the game and preferably coached the game,” Bowden said at Monday’s Knoxville Quarterback Club meeting, according to the Knoxville News-Sentinel. “… But just because she likes to watch football doesn’t necessarily mean she knows anything about football.”

Rice feels completely different on the subject however.  She feels that she brings plenty of strengths to the table for making sure the first annual playoff goes well for college football fans.

“Look, the fact is that there are several members of this committee that didn’t play football,” she said. “I didn’t play football because I’m a female, but there are some who just didn’t play football. So, no, I don’t think so. I’m finding that the committee, it’s great because we all bring different strengths and approaches and experiences to what we’re doing.”

College football playoff executive director Bill Hancock thinks the criticism leveled at Rice is unfair.

“Goodness gracious, Condi is imminently qualified to serve on this committee," Hancock said. "She is brilliant and discerning and knows college football.”

Although Bowden believes she shouldn't sit on the committee -- he does think she is a stand up person that can do a great job in politics where she's spent most of her time.

“I’m a big Condoleezza Rice fan,” Bowden said. “I’m Christian Conservative. I’d vote for her for President. I don’t necessarily agree that she should be on the committee.”
