He was convicted in 92 for raping the beauty queen, they young Desiree Washington who was 18 at the time. Mike maintained his stance of innocence all through serving three years of jail time. He might have remembered his own tragedy all through that.
Mike recently told during his interview at “Opie Radio” show on SiriusXM earlier this week. Mike enlisted that an old creepy man grabbed him from the street in Brooklyn, Mike’s birth town. "He snatched me off the street," Mike said. "I was a little kid...[he was an] old man."
His abductor then beat him and sexually abuse him consistently. He left Mike on the street and 7 years old Mike escaped with his life and never looked back. "[He] bullied me, sexually abused me and stuff," said Tyson. "Never seen him again."
He said upon questioning an answer that he really isn’t sure that the incident made any impact on him. "I don't know if it [the incident of sexual abuse] did or not [changed Mike]," he said. "I don't always remember, but maybe I do but I don't. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed by it.'
As a child of a single mother with a lot of siblings, Mike fell into a lot of criminal stuff and even served time in reformatory school. His inspiration for being a boxer came from his urge to be famous when he witnessed Mohammad Ali, the boxing legend live in front of him. he said that he wanted to be great like Ali and that’s what inspired him to be a fighter.
Mike retired from fighting in 2006 and enjoys the public eye as he leads a crime-free and abuse-free life. His biography came in last year which told of Tyson’s life and happenings. He may have missed out on this detail in the book. That’s maybe why he shared it in air with the world.
He said that he was not ashamed or guilty of what had happened to him. At that time he didn’t tell the police out of fear of his life more than his abuser’s. He says that now as he looks back at the incident, he’s not sure how to feel about it.
