Facebook introduces a New Groups App for iOS and Android

Every month more than 700 million people use Facebook groups, but on cell phones using groups is a second class experience. Therefore, Facebook has introduced a new Group App.

Recently, Facebook has launched a standalone Groups app in order to enhance user experience. Features such as powerful notification controls and group discovery section are incorporated in this app. However, unlike Facebook Messenger App, you would not be forced to use this app. As the group feature will still remain the part of Facebook app.

This app can be very helpful for both Android and iOS group admin’s as they now have a proper way to control the group. They no longer have to log in from their system in order to control the chaos going on in their group. The app also speeds up the consumption experience for not only friends and family groups, but also for study groups and support networks. It also allows you to unlock the private sharing.

Shirlen Sun, the groups app’s project manage said that what they have developed is unique and currently no one in the market is offering what they are. Although Google and Yahoo are trying to compete through dominate group email lists, but their apps lack the rich content focused social feed group services. However, Facebook is really happy to capitalize this idea and it has come up with a great groups app.

A spokesman of Facebook said that they are providing a new and unique way to people that will help them organize their personal lives. In addition to this, he said that the group all will also add value to the enterprise. Also, this app will help Facebook compete with Yammer and Slack.

The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg told us about this groups app last year in an interview at an internal Mobile Dev Day. He said that their group feature in Facebook app is always going to be a second class experience for the users.

He also said that the messaging feature is the main Facebook app is also a second class experience, thus it is important that Facebook comes up with standalone apps for both of these features. If Facebook wants users to experience the full potential of these features, it is time that it develops something specific, according to Zuckerberg.

He also said that Facebook had foreseen the need for a standalone chat app experience back in 2011 when they launched the Facebook Messenger, but at that time many things were left to flag in the app’s hidden menu.

Group feature has been part of Facebook from the very beginning. Although few years back they served more as a bumper sticker. But in the beginning of 2010, Facebook reshaped the image of groups. It reintroduced the group feature in such a way that it was used for some specific set of people and the news shared in these groups was private. People would not see the group notification in their news feeds.

All you have to do is download the groups app and all your groups will automatically be added in the app.
