Tristan Thompson was offered $13 million which in extension is $52 million for four years but he turned down the deal, probably because LeBron has like a year left on his contract.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are facing some major time issues with their game. They lost a sixth game in the season and while the players are giving it their full force. The team always seem to fall short of that winning spirit. So who is to blame for this extensive losing streak for a world class team of the NBA.
It is definitely not all on the coach this time. Coach Blatt is standing right there shouting his head off trying to save technical fouls. It’s one of the most legendary MVP LeBron James. Now LeBron was recovering from his injuries.
He went to South Beach and JerryWorld, for two weeks when he should have been in the practice because let’s admit it that the Cavaliers one of the best squads in its history. The players have so much talent and so much motivation that they just need that gluing factor to work.
All eyes were on the MVP to do just that but he fell short on all accounts when it came to the game. LeBron was explosive on the way to 33 points, seven rebounds and five assists but was that enough at a game where you need to set the bar for the young players.
LeBron seemed to be just putting up an appearance and wasn’t making an effort to listen to Blatt. He did acknowledge Blatt’s position as the coach but doesn’t seem to remember it when he is on the court.
It’s that kind of LeBron attitude that has got one of his own handpicked player negotiating his deals. Tristan Thompson isn’t what might be described as a brilliant player but even LeBron has admitted that he’s good.
The young player is quick on his feet and moves fast for his size. He is anticipated to be a great asset in defense and that was exactly what the Cavaliers might have been thinking when they offered him a contract. $13 million contract for a year which would be $52 million for four years in extension. So did he take it?
He didn’t. He probably heard that the Cavaliers got new TV contract which would be creating a better financial environment which Thompson seems to have anticipated. He turned down the deal. Many are calling it a stupid move but considering the upcoming environment, it might be that the player might be reviewing his contract.
Especially when LeBron James seems to have a year left on his contract but the professionals have already commented that LeBron might not be leaving soon so if Cavaliers Thompson thought that he is going to get James’ contract he might want to rethink strategies when there might be a chance that they will talk again in the off-season.
