This was one of her revelations in an exclusive interview with E! News' Francesca Bacardi on Jan. 12. Perry said the 12-and-a-half-minute show won't be a "piece of cake," among other things. Despite the duration being much shorter than her two-hour concerts, she is still going all out.
Perry also told Bacardi it was a big honor to be selected as this year's performing artist for Super Bowl XLIX. Once she found out she nailed the gig, she cried like a baby. She also said she's "not superhuman" when it comes to dealing with nerves for the big show:
"I've got my mind, my body, my soul and my focus really in tact.
"It feels like I've out dreamt my dream.
"I'm not superhuman. I'm not a robot."
Perry tells Bacardi she will do a "medley" of songs that people "all know and love." She adds,"I'm going to do all the songs that work. I think that my entrance and my exit as for right now -- they are superb."
Bacardi reveals Perry "will have multiple costume changes." No other than Scott will design the costumes.
Scott told Style.com on Jan. 14 he's "so honored to be asked by Katy to be a part of this momentous pop cultural occasion."
In an interview with NBC's Willie Geist on NBC's "Today" (via The Arizona Republic's Ed Masley) on Jan. 12, Perry discussed her plans as well as her "first special guest," rock n' roll icon Lenny Kravitz:
"When asked to drop hints about the 'big surprises she has planned,' the singer talked about how excited she was about her entrances and exits. She told Geist that the retractable roof at the stadium will come into play, joked about requesting a pink polka-dotted helicopter and talked about her 'first special guest,' Lenny Kravitz, whom she described as an 'incredible rock and roll icon, a guitar god' and 'the king of cool.'"
Perry also admitted to Geist, just as she did to Bacardi, that she is nervous. She confirms she wept when she found out she locked up the Super Bowl Halftime Show for this year:
"Can I be human and say yes, I will be nervous? I'm going to kind of recycle those nerves and make them adrenaline.
"I was weeping. And I was weeping all day, actually. I could kind of well up right now.
"I came from nothing and I created this world and I made it myself with my own strength."
