Israel has awarded actor Michael Douglas a $1 million prize for the forays he made into the complexities of Judaism.
The veteran actor, Michael Douglas got nominated as a Genesis Prize Laureate. Just two days ago, Michael Douglas became the proud recipient of this award. In a rousing speech he said that the award would be mutually accepted by him and his family who piqued his appetite for delving into the mysteries of the Jewish faith.
He furthermore hoped that the teachings he had learnt from various sources about Judaism would go a long way in informing and inspiring the rest of the world. This is the second Genesis Prize that is being given away.
The president of the Genesis Prize foundation that gave away the prize said that he was proud to honor Michael Douglas with the accolade. The Genesis Prize award recognized his capabilities as a fine actor and a man who kept himself well-informed about the Jewish people and the state of Israel.
His entire family kept in touch with their Jewish heritage and stayed firm in their faith as Jews. And Michael never forgot his basic roots. Especially in this day and age when the Jewish faith was more relevant to the times than ever before, people like Michael proved that you have to have a strong faith in your ultimate foundation no matter what.
The fact that the Jewish people in the world were getting fewer and fewer day by day meant that people like Michael who showed a bond with Judaism were to be honored for their courage and grace under pressure.
By the way, Michael will be giving away most of the prize money which amounts to a million dollars in cash towards research and moral support of Judaism in the world. The prize is given in collaboration with the head of the state of Israel.
Douglas is 70 years of age and has already won two Academy Awards, four Golden Globes and an Emmy. He is a pacifist by nature and wants to spread greater awareness on earth regarding his religion.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave away the prize to Michael. Last year the prize went to NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg. It was a controversial move since Bloomberg was more of a secularist. And while Michael Douglas’ wife Catherine Zeta Jones is not Jewish, he himself has always firmly held on to his faith as a staunch Jew.
