A huge jewelry robbery took place over the long Easter weekend in London's jewelry district. The thieves got away with millions in diamonds, luxury watches and more.

The details of a huge jewelry heist come out of the UK. Over the long Easter weekend the Hatton Safe Deposit company in the middle of the Jewelry district has been robbed. The thief or thieves has cleaned out 300 safety deposit boxes of the 600 inside the vault.

The timing of the heist is perfect as jewelry stores and the wealthy packed away their valuables over the long Holiday weekend. According to a report on the Daily Mail, the thief (it is not clear if he was alone or it was a gang) has disabled the state-of-the-art alarm system.

He got in via the roof and used a rope to get several stories down to enter through metal security bars he cut. The last barrier an 18-inch vault door he also cut open. The heist was discovered just yesterday when workers came back from the Easter weekend.

It will be never known how much the thief scored with this daring and well planed heist as the contents of the boxes are confidential. Only the owners know what is in there. The Daily Mail says that one of the most valuable items taken is a half-cut aqua diamond worth 500,000 Pounds.

There is no trace of the thief or thieves. They might never be caught unless he makes a mistake selling items that can be traced back to the heist.

A heist in London back in 2008 has already made it into the movies. The So called Walkie Talkie Robbery is the basis of the Jason Statham movie The Bank Job.
