Tesla motors Inc. is upgrading its Base Model S series and it will change range, power and price of Model S cars to make quialty sedans in the luxury car market.
The upgrade has been issued to make sure the cars standout as Tesla is not going to produce anymore of the previous entry level Model S P85D. The drive Model S which had a 60 kWh battery and a range of 208 miles has been discontinued and will be replaced with a new model called 70D.

The Model S 70D will feature a 70kWh batter pack and a greater mileage of about 240 miles, along with dual motors which will make it an all-wheel car. The starting price for the previous car was set at $749000 but the new 70D model S will cost about $5000 more.
Other than make a bigger impact in the luxury car market, Tesla wishes to incorporate technology it offers in other versions of Model S, which may lead to decrease in production costs. While at the same time, the Model S new version 70D will contain features to take it to the luxury level in car market.
The Model S will also consist of a SuperCharger along with unique autopilot version hardware, however adding autopilot will cost an additional $2000 to buyers of the 70D, according to WSJ.
According to Elon Musk the CEO of Tesla Motors Inc. the auto pilot feature technology will allow the vehicle to control the drive, while the driver can relax.
The autopilot will control the steering and acceleration of the sedan 70D and the innovative technology will be offered to customers in late 2015. However the autopilot is still not approved by the US government officials for driving vehicles on the highway.

Additionally the Model S 70D will not contain the previous model ultra-fast acceleration model, to make the autopilot safer. Having already sold 10030 cars in the first quarter of 2015, Tesla is aspiring to sell 55000 vehicles in the next quarter.
