The Android version has been delayed.

The long-heralded fighting game franchise has just brought out its latest addition to the mobile gaming fray. Designed to be a companion, slimmed-down addition to the console heavyweight Mortal Kombat X, Mortal Kombat X Mobile is now available on iTunes for iOS devices.

It was expected that the title would be released simultaneously on the Google Play Store as well, but it has yet to appear. Warner Bros has not commented on the delay. However, the Android version is assumedly still imminent.

The mobile game relies exclusively on touch-based controls, so it is not intended to be a replacement for the console game for those who own an Ouya, Android TV, or other television-based mobile device. It is explicitly designed only for handheld devices as a supplement to the Kombat X on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

And in fact, the two games go hand-in-hand. By playing the mobile title, players will be able to unlock new skins and other in-game rewards that can be transferred to the console version. They can also add to their Faction Wars score.

As for the mechanics of Kombat X Mobile, players select three characters to sent into battle. Tapping on the screen results in a light attack, a swipe will send a heavy attack, and multitouch taps are used for defense.
