Darren Criss expatiated recently on life beyond Glee. His 90 day job on Hedwig and the Angry Inch was a whole different experience alright.
The audience could not believe it when they saw Darren Criss bawling like a baby. But before the curtains parted on Hedwig and the Angry Inch, he was already into the world of waterworks. He was doing a rehearsal for Midnight Radio and the tune was like that of an anthem. The notes brought back the melting memories in his mind and reminded him of all the world full of people who were breathing and living right now with him and so he fought back the tears.
This new crybaby showmanship is now being shown most of the time at NYC’s Belasco Theater. Darren is playing Hedwig and has put on fake hair and high heels to look like the character he is portraying. For those who are not in the know, Hedwig is a transgender individual and a rock star to boot.
This is a turning point of sorts for Criss since he himself played Blaine Anderson in Glee recently and now that he is playing Hedwig, he finds a lot in common between the two portrayals. Darren admits to OUT magazine that it has been a crazy ride. His teenage years were very chaotic and stormy. Just to have made it to adulthood was a miracle in itself.
The main issue with Darren was getting to know himself. He had identity crisis after identity crisis. It was only after a severe emotional struggle with the inner and outer forces that he managed to achieve a certain degree of balance and stability in his life.
Hedwig also reminded him of his childhood days when he used to listen to a CD of songs by that name. The beautiful tunes and melodies used to amuse him to no end. And today when he has gotten a chance to play Hedwig, he cannot be happier.
