Apple Music’s Achilles heel has been exposed. The blunder made by Beats Electronics gives the advantage to Sonos.
Apple Music’s subscription amenity launch went as per plan. But if there was anything that was lacking it was the answer to the question how anyone would listen to the music service in their own residence.

The reason behind this aporia is that Apple’s home-audio scheme is in total disarray. At least for now it is under construction. Apple purchased Beats Electronics for a cool $3 billion in 2014. And the folks at Beats Electronics were busy tinkering away at producing a Wifi-connected loudspeaker. This would have been the opponent to Sonos.
But such was not to be. They say the fault lies in our stars. While Sonos went ahead and built its very own product, Beats was unable to complete its mission in time since most of the engineers and workers either deserted the company or were re-allocated into other fields.
Although Beats Electronics is famous for its headphones, Bluetooth loudspeakers are another one of its specialties. Bluetooth unfortunately has a few flaws in its makeup. Curtailed range, phone prompts and calls invasively disturbing listening experience and finally rising competition have all caused a lot of problems.
While Beats was looking forward to beating Sonos at its game, it looks like the tables have turned. The challenge was making speakers that could be set up in multiple rooms where they would provide pleasurable listening satisfaction to consumers.
Beats wanted to outdo itself in fact and Sonos was just another roadblock in the way. The reality of the situation was that Beats wanted to sell its stuff for up to $750 per unit. The ins and outs of the competition were such that Beats was forced to enter a tangled mess.
Other companies were in on the game. Beats wanted to work alone though. A number of problems cropped up and so the goal was not reached in the nick of time.
Thus Apple Incorporated, the mother company decided to call things off. The whole shebang was put on hold. Beats Electronics seems to have lost many of its employees after the takeover by Apple. Apple has already produced the iPod Hi-Fi.
But as for Sonos, it is on the cutting edge now and will amass a billion dollars within the span of the current year. Sonos has succeeded thanks in part to Spotify and Pandora. And its gain is Apple Music’s and Beats Electronics’ loss.
