It has been announced on Wednesday that 25-year old British actress Emma Watson is joining science fiction thriller “The Circle”, which also involves Tom Hanks both as the actor and the producer.
The film is based on Dave Eggers’ novel of the same name, published in 2013. The film adaptation will be steered by James Ponsoldt which will mark his first film as a producer. The screenplay is also written by Ponsoldt himself. He personally admires the acting skills of Emma Watson.
“Emma Watson is one of my favorite actors, and her incredible talent, sensitivity and deep intelligence will bring an electric energy to “The Circle.” Ponsoldt said in a statement.
Initially, there were rumors and speculations that “Ex Machina” star Alicia Vikander will star in “The Circle” alongside Tom Hanks and is nearing a deal with Image Nation, the financer of the film. However, the things did not work out and she reportedly joined “Bourne 5” starring Matt Damon and Julia Stiles.
The “Harry Potter” fame Emma Watson will play the character of a recent college graduate who lands a job in internet monopoly called “The Circle”, which links user’s personal emails, social media and banking to its own network and create a new level of transparency.
“The Circle is a fantastic modern day thriller that shines a light on the role of the internet and our own identities in a world of increasing transparency and privacy issues.” Image Nation CEO said in a statement last month.
Emma Watson’s other new films include thriller “Regression”, “Colonia and classic fairy tale “Beauty and the Beast”, playing the character of Belle.

The shooting is expected to begin in August 2015 in California.
