Kim Kardashian App Made Over $62 Million in First Year

The Kim Kardashian: Hollywood App was released a year ago on June 19th, 2014. According to a new analyst report Kim's game made over $62 million in revenues.

"Kanye pushed me to do the app," said Kim Kardashian in Cannes this week. Glu Mobile released Kim Kardashian: Hollywood game a year ago. To mark the anniversary I4U News asked Sensor Tower to analyze the downloads and revenue numbers of Kim Kardashian's app.

In July of last year a report surfaced that the Kim Kardashian game will make $85 million and that Kim Kardashian gets a 45% revenue split. This number is not far off from what the new analytics report from Sensor Tower reveals.

The Kim Kardashian: Hollywood app generated over $62 million in revenue globally since launch. The app has been downloaded over 27 million times, but new downloads have fallen off beyond the first quarter of the release. The revenues stayed strong implying strong retention and in-app purchase behavior.

The Apple App Store contributed with $39 million the lion share of the revenue. The app raked in $23 million on the Google Play store. The download numbers are 18 million and 9.3 million respectively. On average the Kardashian game got downloaded 170,000 times per day during the first year.

Kim's app was No. 1 in free iPhone apps for 1 month. Now the app ranks at No. 398th. Kim Kardashian App's is Glu Mobile's most downloaded app, contributing 18.4% of all Glu apps and 50% of revenue according to Sensor Tower. With downloads declining on the Kardashian App, Glu Mobile is already set to release the next celebrity app later this year featuring Katy Perry.

About the Sensor Tower Analytics Methodology

Sensor Tower's analytics (site) is based on over 75,000 apps connected to their App Store Optimization platform. The Estimated App Worth algorithm takes that data delivering accurate estimates of revenue and downloads for any app in the app store.

The firms proprietary algorithm takes into account many different factors including user numbers (on a per country basis, app market value), revenue rankings in each country (normalized by country and category), user reviews on a per country basis, app category, recent user growth compared to historical growth, and more.

The Sensor Tower model captures the transaction handled by Apple App Store and Google Play, which are In-App Purchases (IAP) and the price of Paid Apps, other revenues like sponsors, advertisement or Amazon App store are not included. The results of revenue analysis are showing the net revenue, which is after the 30% cut of the app stores, so the public figure may be higher.
