The recent recovery of the fossil fragments of a strange oceanic animal from the past, Hallucigenia show it to be a sort of tiny sea monster.
The researchers still cannot believe their eyes. But as the saying goes…truth is stranger than fiction! At least it is so in the case of Hallucigenia, a diminutive sea animal that existed about 500 million years ago.

he only problem until now had been that most of the fossils of the little monster were missing the head portion on them. Novel relics unearthed from Canadian soil however bear a head showing the creature to be even more grotesque than was previously thought.
The animal species appears to be a hydra or sea centipede with a snake-like head. It is truly like a specimen torn out of a book on Dadaism. Almost alien and totally unworldly in its basic features, the many-limbed beast with a head like a syphon seemed to the scientists like a product from a sci-fi horror movie. Too many special effects were there for them to believe in its existence despite the evidence.
The first time it was found from the subterranean depths a century ago, the scientists just shook their heads in disbelief. It was two centimeters in length and had the appearance of a hair filament.
The lumbar region bore spikes that were sharp while the belly region bore projections from which hung claws like that of a lobster. The corrections in perception had to be made along the way.
At first its back side was thought to be its underbelly. Only later on was the actual difference noticed. Still there are some who have their doubts seeing how bizarre and anomalous this creature happens to be.
It was indeed a delicate procedure of slowly chipping away at the shale rocks that revealed the head of the animal. Not only were the eyes visible beneath the electron microscope but the faint signs of a smile were there too much to the surprise of the researchers.
In its mouth were a ring of teeth and then there were further teeth inside its throat and stomach. A sack on the creature’s body that was once thought to be its head turned out to be a vacuole of sorts that stored rotten liquid from what the animal had already digested.
This here was one weird critter alright. It belongs to the Cambrian Period of prehistory when a profusion of strange creatures happened to be created by evolution in its spate.
