Apple's Beats 1 is Not a Threat to National Radio Stations

Apple touts Beats 1 as the 24/7 worldwide radio station. It is all over the place I give it that, but has no identity listeners can identify with.

I listen to music all day long while I work. I listen to mostly radio. Yes. Apple. I stream it over the internet and its a 24/7 radio station. There is nothing new about that. The big difference between my favorite radio station and Beats 1 is that has a location.

I am Austrian and I listen to FM4 wherever I am in the world. FM4 is mostly moderated in English making it as globally accessible as Beats 1. The thing though that makes me identify with this radio station is that it is anchored in Austria. While Beats 1 switches around the world to different DJs and special guests the music stays also international. FM4 is featuring a lot of Austrian bands (e.g. Bilderbuch, see video below) and performers without missing a beat on the great music that is made anywhere else including the new Pharrell track "Freedom."

FM4 is also not just about music it also keeps me up to date with national and international news and culture. It is the complete package that Beats 1 is not matching by a long shot. Beats 1 is neat with star DJ Zane Lowe and others, but it is not going to replace a good local radio station that also has great music as a mission. Every country has that one good radio station that can beat Beats 1.

You can stream FM4 here, maybe it will become your favorite radio station.
