Harrison Ford was injured in an airplane crash in March of this year. Yet he is fit as a fiddle again. According to BBC, he made an appearance at the Comic-Con Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel recently and was given a hero’s welcome.
He is 72 years old and appeared in San Diego to the delight and wild crazed wolf whistles of his thousands of fans. He is reported to have said upon coming on stage that he was fine and how else could he have walked all the way there to address the crowd.
When his plane crashed a few months ago, he suffered a broken pelvic bone and fractured an ankle to boot. According to the Irishexaminer, it was pretty nasty but it was a good thing that he had not lost his life in the crash.
In the Star Wars trilogy he appeared alongside Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. While he played Hans Solo, the other two played Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia respectively. They are to re-do the film for the next installment which is titled The Force Awakens.
Ford said that it seemed pretty odd after having left the series for some 30 years or so. He said that he had grown up during that time of absence. According to the Guardian, it felt weird for Ford to be coming back on the platform and doing the next installment.
Yet here he was and so were the others. The Director of the film, J.J.Abrams was present on the occasion of Comic-Con Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel too. The two British actors in the film also came on stage to pay their tributes to the legend. As for the frenzied audience, it was allowed a question-and-answer time period too.
All three original members of the Star Wars trilogy are bringing the force back to the series. It is indeed a memorable reunion, one that had been a long time in the making. E! News says that hundreds of fans had been sleeping in tents outside the convention in eager anticipation of their favorite stars (especially Harrison Ford whom they simply adored).
Their dream came true when a tired-looking Ford stepped on stage and gave a speech that they welcomed with oohs and aahs. Furthermore, a behind-the-scenes look was offered to these eager beaver fans. And they just went barmy upon being given the time of their life.
It was indeed quite a pleasant surprise. And each moment of meeting the stars was filled with glee and gaiety. People states that this by the way is the first time that Ford is meeting the public after his plane crash. The man had been in a period of convalescence.
Yet he seems to have recovered very well although he still seems a bit rickety from his actions and facial features. Of course, at the age of 72 you do look a little old, tired and world-weary. Ford once also suffered an accident on set and broke his leg. But as they say: once a hero, always a hero. He has managed to survive some pretty rough incidents on and off the set.
He was once asked what he thought of his character, Hans Solo after The Return of the Jedi. He said that it was a good thing that the character had come back from the past to bless him rather than haunt him.
Furthermore, Ford praised the script beyond the usual niceties at Comic-Con Star Wars panel. He said that it was quite well written and ought to be commended for its fluency and textual superiority. There were nuances in it that other scripts failed to cover in their repertoire.
The Director also said that a trailer would be arriving soon. He said that the storyline was very catchy and it would attract audience attention right from the start.
Carrie Fisher who played Princess Leia said that it was almost unreal to be back in the same old roles. She described her feelings as being very surrealistic and delightfully full of good vibes.
The fans screamed out their approval at each one of the thoughtful three. There were many who were extra-concerned about the health of Ford. That was when someone said that lets bring him on stage and see how he is. Ford soon entered the arena and everyone became stark raving mad.
Ford was a bit quieter than his usual self. He is known for his strong silent personality. When he added to this by remaining taciturn, the mystery factor was doubled and his fans started applauding even more loudly.
As the clamor rose to several decibels, the scene was one of a flashback of sorts. The good old days of the 80s were revisited when the Star Wars series used to be at the center stage of events.
However, the world had changed radically both socially and technologically since the Reaganite greedy days of Cold Warriors that were the 80s. Nowadays the Internet was king and there was a race to singularity where humanity would meld with electronics to create a bionic world within the time span of the year 2050 as some predicted.
It was a cause for excitement, this coming together of old elements. A procession of memories began to be set in motion as the Big Three appeared on stage at the Comic-Con.
The surprise appearance of the actor who played Hans Solo was a source of sheer joy for his countless admirers. The 6000 people who thronged the auditorium simply couldn’t hold back their infinite love for the one heartthrob of their dreams.
Harrison Ford finally spoke the words “it’s good to be back” which the crowd hung on to as the ultimate speech act. He is a very popular actor alright. Almost in a league of his own, Ford owns several motorcycles which he regularly rides and he is a pilot who can handle airplanes and helicopters. He is a lover of humanity to boot that really cares about the oppressed and downtrodden.
