Chris Hemsworth had to follow a strict diet plan to look skinny for the movie “In the Heart of the Sea”.

Chris Hemsworth shared the details of the meager, extreme diet, which he and the rest of the cast were forced to eat for shooting the shipwrecked scenes.

“We have to shoot the really skinny stuff where we drop down to 5, 6,700 calories a day, good three or four weeks, and it’s going to be pretty uncomfortable, but we will be together in our misery.” Chris Hemsworth told Entertainment Tonight.

“All the bad stuff pizza, hamburgers, chocolate, ice cream, anything that is not on the menu – is something you have an obsession with.” He said.

The shooting is over and Hemsworth can now eat anything he wants. “I spend more time thinking about food than anything else at the moment.” Hemsworth quipped.

“In the Heart of the Sea” is based on Nathaniel Phibrick’s novel of same name, which describes the wreckage of Whaleship Essex in the Pacific Ocean in 1820. The ship demolished when attacked by a whale and left people on board with hunger, panic and pain.

Ron Howard is the directer of the new thriller, disaster. He has helmed award-winning films like "Apollo 13" and "A Beautiful Mind" before. Chris Hemsworth is playing the main character of Owen Chase while Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Tom Holland and Ben Whishaw round out the rest of the lead cast.

This is not the first time when Hemsworth lost his weight for a character. For becoming a Formula 1 driver in 2013 “Rush”, he slimmed down to 185 pounds in just four months. Before that, he bulked up to a 215 pounds for playing superhero in 2012 “The Avengers”.

"I immediately went from weightlifting into cardio training to shed that extra 30 pounds, which was a pretty nasty thing to do. I'd rather put on weight any time. I was basically underfed and overtrained for a number of months—and it was still a squeeze to get into the Formula 1 car." Hemsworth said in an interview.

“In the Heart of the Sea” was originally slated for March 13 release but pushed to nine months ahead and will release on December 11.
