  • Ronda Rousey dedicates fight to her namesake "Rowdy" Roddy Piper!

Ronda Rousey will face off against Bethe Correia at the UFC 190 with a purpose.

Ronda Rousey inspired her name from the legendary pro wrestler "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper recently passed away at his home. Piper was 61 years old. Before Rousey became a pro in the mixed martial arts she came up with her nickname.

In the 1970’s Piper was coached by Gene LeBell. LeBell also mentored Rousey when she came into the mixed martial arts scene. As Rousey was rising up the ranks in judo LeBell remained by her side.

Rousey finally decided to step into the world of professional fighting. At the time LeBell asked Piper if Rousey could use his nickname inside the cage. Piper proudly gave Rousey the permission to use his name inside the cage.

In 2014 Piper shared how Ronda and Gene had called him. Piper revealed how Ronda told him she would make him proud. Piper told her to go and make use of his nickname.

After news of Piper’s demise broke out, Rousey paid homage on her Instagram. Rousey also announced she will dedicate her next time against Correia to Piper’s memory. The fight is going to take place on Saturday. Rousey wrote this one is for you Roddy referencing Piper.

Rousey had already been excited for her upcoming fight. Now Rousey will have a purpose to win the fight. Before the dedication the trash talk between Rousey and Correia became pretty intense, according to FOXSports. Both got personal while bashing each other verbally. Now for the UFC women's bantamweight champion Rousey the fight means something more.
