10 Things to Know about the iPhone 6S

The new iPhone 6S is around the corner. Many details of the new iPhone have already surfaced. Here is what you need to know.

On September 9 the world will watch Apple CEO Tim Cook unveil the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.

Will it be a big surprise? No. The leaks from the Asian supply chain are already painting a complete picture of the iPhone 6S.

Below you find the 10 things to know now about the new iPhone.

The iPhone 6S will look the same as the iPhone 6. This is how Apple has done it the past iPhone generations. The S edition is adopting the previous iPhone design. Each time fans hope that Apple breaks this rule, but they never do. The leaked parts confirm that there will be no design change on the outside. There is a possibility that the iPhone 6S is slightly thicker.

Force Touch Screen is the biggest new iPhone 6S feature. Apple has a new differencing touch technology. Apple introduced Force Touch on the Apple Watch and the MacBook Touch Pad supports it too. We had to wait a long time, but now the iPhone 6S screen assembly leaked confirming that it is different. The different backside is likely due to Force Touch. Force Touch on the iPhone will bring shortcuts for multiple tasks.

A new LTE chip doubles iPhone 6S Download speed. A leaked iPhone 6S part shows the new Qualcomm MDM9635M LTE chip, also known as the ‘9X35′ Gobi modem platform. The MDM9635M can deliver up to 300 Mbps download speeds. This is double the 150 Mbps download speeds supported by the iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6S has 2GB of RAM. Samsung and OnePlus put 4GB of RAM into their flagship smartphones this year. Apple upgrades from 1GB to 2GB in the iPhone 6S and this is just a rumor.

A new 12MP camera records up to 4K video in the iPhone 6S. The iPhone 6S camera unit has not leaked yet, but rumors say that Apple will upgrade from 8MP to a 12MP sensor with 4K video capability.

A fourth iPhone 6S and 6S Plus color option is coming. Apple is rumored to add a rose gold option to match the Apple Watch case colors.

The iPhone 6S body uses new stronger aluminum. The iPhone 6S is not only adopting a Apple Watch case color, but also the stronger case material used in the Apple Watch Sport. Aluminum 7000 is 60% stronger. Especially the iPhone 6S Plus will benefit from this. Apple is also said to re-enforce the case design to avoid bendgate on the 6S Plus. A leaked rear shell shows thicker areas and is lighter. Original Bendgate guy will do an iPhone 6S bend test.

A new A9 CPU will bring more performance. A new iPhone always means a new Apple CPU generation. Combined with the 2GB RAM, the iPhone 6S is set to break performance records.

The iPhone 6S has a longer Battery life. Apple is predicted to introduce a larger battery in the iPhone 6S. Combined with the new battery conserving features of iOS 9, the battery will last longer in the iPhone 6S than in the iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6S will go on sale on Friday September 18. This is going to be true if Apple sticks to the iPhone 6 release schedule. The iPhone 6S pre-order starts midnight (12:01am) Friday, September  11. There is a chance that this gets pushed back by a week. To land a pre-order of the iPhone 6S in the first minutes after midnight secures a delivery on release day.

Bonus: Apple prepares the biggest launch for the iPhone 6S. Apple reportedly ordered up to 90 million iPhone 6S units for the iPhone 6S launch. This makes the iPhone 6S launch by far the biggest in history. Will there be a shortage? Most likely, despite the high production volume. Pre-ordering is highly recommendable unless you miss a good old lining up at an Apple Store. As Apple botched the Apple Watch launch, there has not been a line at the Apple Store since a year.

Apple has lost the ability to keep the new iPhone a secret. Apple seems to have given up to crack down on leaks from the Asian supply chain. The company seems to be satisfied with keeping the new iPhones in development a secret. iPhones that are in production are a lost case to keep from leaking.

All rumors of the iPhone 7 are indeed just rumors. There is no leak about what the iPhone 7 is going to be like. In summer of 2016 we will get the first concrete insights through leaks from the supply chain.
