  • Ellen DeGeneres and Disney announce Finding Nemo sequel

D23 Expo was the venue for the announcement of the upcoming Disney and DeGeneres venture, Finding Dory.

Ellen DeGeneres has been insistent upon various occasions for a sequel to the Pixar-Disney 2003 hit, Finding Nemo. Although there was really no thought in the project. Ellen kept asking them to consider.

She explained that Dory (voiced by Ellen herself) was a sweet, lovable character. She said that even with her short term memory problem, she stuck on the mission.

Ellen said it is very important for children to grow up watching characters that are flawed. They need to believe that everything is not perfect. Even then friendship and courage could get the most flawed characters through.

Her relentless venture was not falling on deaf ears. On Friday, at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, the Disney Creative Chief Officer John Lasseter came forward.

He initiated his address by showing a clip of all the times Ellen had asked him for the sequel. He said that they had finally given in to all of Ellen’s pleas. He said that they are now in production for the sequel. It will be the sequel to Finding Nemo called Finding Dory.

This time around, the blue little fish with short term memory will be the main character. She will be finding someone now. According to a clip, her family.

The clip by the filmmakers features Dory sleep floating to a distant coral. She is subconsciously calling out to someone. She wakes up and realizes that she has a family who are living.

They don’t know that she is alive. Dory wants to go find him. Nemo wants to help but Marlin is not ready to go across the ocean for another mission. He tells her that he knows a guy who could help her.

We will be seeing some old characters and some new. Joining the cast will be Diane Keaton as Dory's mom and Eugene Levy as her dad.

Joining the cast will be new characters Hank, an octopus portrayed by Ed O'Neill ; Bailey, a beluga whale voiced by Ty Burrell ; and Destiny, a whale shark played by Kaitlin Olson.
