Stephen arrives for the interview with GQ in a frazzled state. He didn’t catch his fair share of Z’s last night. He has even interviewed Eminem. That was quite an emotional roller coaster ride. The man knows how to deal with the ins and outs of celebs that are difficult and controversial.
As the GQ interview got underway, Stephen didn’t hesitate to tell us that he just wanted to go to sleep. His field was comedy. And late night television was a genre where anything goes. Stephen has faced many losses but he has taken it all in a stride with the right attitude.
He often makes comic references to cojones. Or the lack of them. He also faces the burden of social media. That is in all its backbreaking tonnage of opinion and humiliation. He has changed his style for the new show he is hosting. It is a big shift from The Colbert Report to The Late Show.
The interview with Eminem went alright. There were a few flash points but on the whole things went smoothly. Stephen said a few things that were way out of line and Eminem just looked back at him like he was nuts!
But then he decided to let it go. Eminem was more confused than outraged. That is by the aggression that Stephen showed in his questioning. Stephen is straightforward and honest like Eminem. So when two minds that think alike meet, there are explosions and fireworks.
Colbert has an itchy personality. He likes to scratch hard where it bothers him. And he will satisfy his itch to say something no matter what price he has to pay. He is a far cry from the old pundits who were full of hot air.
These included in their ranks Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly. The current temper of the times dictates otherwise. America is changing for the better. The nation’s mood calls for people like Colbert to do less preaching.

What's needed is and more reaching out for things that matter. Colbert may be a comedian but he is a comedian with a conscience. Some things are sacred and not meant to be joked about. At least, he believes in that with all his heart and soul.
