The FC Barcelona striker is that close to transferring to the Premier League club. His move to Manchester United has been a hot offseason topic. Manchester City was also reportedly in pursuit, per Sky Sports (via FOX Sports).
Pedro is awaiting the final transfer fee amount. Manchester United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward is in Barcelona. Sky Sports' Guillem Balague confirmed the report.
That development should make the transfer all but a formality.
Balague says FC Barcelona is sticking to the £21.2 million release clause for Pedro. That is equal to €30 million, per Revista de la Liga (via FOX Sports):
"Ed Woodward, the Manchester United chief executive, has been in Barcelona today, speaking to the club and the word is that a deal will be done this week one way or another.
"I understand a deal between the player and United is already in place and all that is left is for United to put the 30 million euros on the table. They are just negotiating how they are going to pay for it, with installments or an amount up-front.
"They are very close. I'm not sure whether Barcelona will try one last time with Pedro and say, 'Don't go.' But it seems his mind is already made up."
Chelsea is also making a move on Pedro, per TheGuardian.com's Dominic Fifield. Chelsea is one of Manchester United's Premier League rivals.
Fifield stresses Chelsea came close to signing Pedro in January. Manager Jose Mourinho decided to back out because of Pedro's Champions League club commitments.
Chelsea signed former Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado instead. Cuadrado has been a disappointment. It's no surprise Chelsea wants Pedro again, per Fifield.
On Aug. 15, Pedro was reportedly reluctant to transfer to Manchester United. TheGuardian.com's Jamie Jackson says Louis van Gaal's managerial style concerned him.
van Gaal recently had a falling out with Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes. van Gaal criticized Valdes' commitment to the squad. This is because the latter refused to play for the team's reserves last season.
van Gaal did not include Valdes in Manchester United's pre-season roster. van Gaal cites Valdes' refusal to follow his philosophy, per TheGuardian.com.
van Gaal's involvement in the David De Gea-Real Madrid situation has also been a factor. Jackson says De Gea "is bemused by van Gaal's handling of the situation." De Gea has long been a candidate to move to Real Madrid, per Jackson.
