XTI Aircraft TriFan 600 Airplane Challenges Flying Cars

The XTI Aircraft Company wants to change how to travel with the TriFan 600 airplane that can land and take off vertically.

The TriFan 600 looks like something you would see in a science fiction movie. The fixed wing airplane has three ducted fans for vertical landing and take off. Two high performance turboshaft engines enable the TriFan 600 to reach speeds of 400mph.

The TriFan 600 seats 6 and is pitted against today's business jets. The big advantage is that the plane can land everywhere a helicopter can land. This cuts the travel time to and from airports.

This plane still needs to be built and that requires money. The XTI Aircraft company devises a novel funding method for the aviation industry.

XTI is launching an equity crowdfunding campaign under new rules approved by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.  It is part of a larger capital financing plan that includes venture capital, private equity and high net worth investors.

"We view equity crowdfunding as a creative way to involve everyone as true stakeholders working together to pioneer this all new way to fly," said David Brody, founder and chairman of XTI. "It's a way to turn all of our supporters into potential stockholders by providing the public a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get in early on something truly revolutionary."

The TriFan 600 was in development for 2 years. The team members of XTI include aviation luminaries like Jeffrey Pino, former president and chief executive of Sikorsky Aircraft. Pino is the XTI Vice Chairman. XTI board member Charlie Johnson is the former president of Cessna Aircraft Company.

The TriFan 600 looks like an ambitious project. On paper it has more appeal than the Flying Cars and it looks a lot cooler.
