  • Fiat Chrysler will be recalling 1.06 million trucks over a steering issue

The trucks will be fixed and made complaint with a federal regulation.

FCA US LLC which is a unit of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV has announced that it will recall its Ram trucks. About 1.06 million of the company’s Ram trucks in the United States need to fix a steering wheel defect.

The defect could cause an air-bag to deploy inadvertently. The company carried out an internal investigation that discovered the fault. The fault they stated occurs because these trucks may have steering wheel wiring harnesses.

These harnesses wear out when they come in contact with a spring. Such a wear can cause a short circuit. This could lead in the inadvertent deployment of the driver side air bag.

FCA US has stated that an extra 156,498 heavy duty trucks are being recalled, according to Reuters. This they said is being done as they were supplied with steering components that may have welds with insufficient fusion.

This could then lead to separation and lead to diminished steering response. Apart from this about 188,000 vehicles are being recalled by the company. After the recall the company intends to make the vehicle’s side curtain bags compliant with a federal regulation.

The federal regulation reduces the risk of rear occupant ejection during a rollover. The company is also recalling 323,183 trucks in Canada, Mexico and outside the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) region.
