BlackBerry confirms its Android plans at the company's Fiscal Q2 2016 earnings call.
The BlackBerry Priv leaked yesterday. Today BlackBerry announced the BlackBerry Priv, the company's first Android phone. BlackBerry tries to get to a faster turn around for its mobile phone business with Android.

"At the same time, we are focused on making faster progress to achieve profitability in our handset business. Today, I am confirming our plans to launch Priv, an Android device named after BlackBerry's heritage and core mission of protecting our customers' privacy. Priv combines the best of BlackBerry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform," continued Mr. Chen.
There are still no details available about when BlackBerry will unveil the BlackBerry Priv and when it will go on sale.
The Priv stands for Privacy. BlackBerry has hardened Android to make it more secure and bundles security services with the phone.
The BlackBerry Priv is rumored to sport a 18MP camera, dual LED flash, 3GB RAM, 1.8Ghz 6-core Snapdragon CPU, QHD display, 3000mhA battery and microSD slot.
BlackBerry's financials are behind what analysts expected. The loss in the quarter ending August 29 is 13 cents per share with revenues of around $490 million.
