We have analyzed the Black Friday deals for 40-inch TVs over the past 5 years. In 2009 Target offered a 40-inch TV for $449 and Black Friday shoppers have been excited. Prices have since then fallen by $100 each year. This rapid drop has brought down the cost for a bargain 40-inch TV to $115 in Black Friday sales last year. $115 40-inch TV deals have been available from Walmart and Amazon. Amazon had first advertised a $119 40-inch TV, but has later adjusted the price to $115 to match the Walmart Black Friday deal.
For Black Friday 2015 we predict that retailers will advertise 40-inch TV deals for under $100. Walmart or Target will be taking the lead on that deal and Amazon will match the $98 or $99.99 price point.
As with the 32-inch TV Black Friday deals, the margins for retailers are gone. These deals are a pure marketing instrument. That is why they are called doorbuster deals. The online equivalent of doorbuster deals are time limited deals that are hard to spot and get your hands on.
Last year we were able to spot the $115 40-inch Upstar deal on Amazon during the Black Friday sale. It is like feasting your eyes on an unicorn. The deal was though already claimed. Amazon has repeated the $115 40-inch TV deal in July on Prime Day. Amazon needs to best this deal on Black Friday, just to make a difference.
The typical specifications of the 40-inch TV bargains include LED panel with 1080p resolution, 60Hz, 1,500:1 contrast ration, 3 HDMI ports, 1 Component video, Built-in digital tuner (ATSC/NTSC), V-Chip, Dolby Digital Sound processing and USB port.
