Roku unveiled the new Roku 4 4K streaming box.
Roku today announced the Roku 4 streaming player. The Roku 4 tops the new Apple TV with 4K support. The Roku 4 runs the new Roku OS 7 that the company also announced today.

Roku OS 7 has new discovery features that give consumers more access to entertainment choices.
“The Roku 4 is our best streaming player ever,” said Roku Founder and CEO Anthony Wood. “It provides an amazing 4K experience with powerful performance and brill iant picture, at up to 60 frames per second on 4K TVs, and access to the most streaming channels with 4K entertainment, plus innovative features like Remote Finder. Powered by the new Roku OS 7, the Roku 4 gives consumers a new era of streaming performance and control over their entertainment.”
Roku also added some small features that show how the company listens to its customers. A button on the Roku 4 box helps to find the Roku remote control. A headphone jack on the Roku 4 remote control allows consumers to easily watch TV in private.
The new Roku 4 box is available for pre-order now for $129.99. It will ship on October 21.
With the new Apple TV, consumers can use apps from the Apple App Store. This has huge potential to make the new Apple TV more versatile than Roku and other streaming boxes without access to the Apple eco system.

Besdies video services, Roku also supports games. Only time will tell if Apple can really differentiate through apps. The new Apple TV ships end of October starting at $149 with no 4K support.
