Nintendo NX Console Merges Wii U and 3DS

Nintendo will reportedly launch the Nintendo NX in 2016.

The Nintendo NX is Nintendo's best kept secret. The next generation Nintendo console needs to be a smash hit like the Wii was to compete again with Sony and Microsoft. The Wall Street Journal reports that the Nintendo NX would include a mobile unit that can be used with the NX console, but also independently. Think of it like the Nintendo NX would have a 3DS included.

The Nintendo NX would also have state-of-the-art performance. The company wants to kill the criticism that their consoles cannot keep up with the Xbox and PS4 in terms of CPU and graphics performance. A future proof gaming console also needs to be able to support virtual reality.

The Wall Street Journal report also says that Nintendo is moving up the release of the Nintendo NX to 2016. Nintendo has started to distribute software kits for the NX to developers. If true than this is a strong indicator that the NX is ready for a release in 2016. Developer Square Enix said back in summer that they are making a Dragon Quest XI for the NX.

The reason why Nintendo is pushing for a 2016 release of the NX console are the weak sales numbers of the Wii U and 3DS claims analyst David Gibson at Macquarie Capital Securities.

Nintendo said to start talk about the Nintendo NX in 2016. If the WSJ report is correct, than we will already hear about the NX early in 2016.
