According to the 9to5Mac liveblog, Tim Cook said that the new Apple TV will launch on October 26.
Cook said that the new Apple TV is the foundation of a new kind of experience. The $149.99 Apple TV is supporting apps, which will be its biggest advantage in competing with other streaming boxes.
Apple will continue to sell the basic Apple TV box, but the new Apple TV is where the new potential lies to change the living room experience. It all depends on the Apple TV apps and what they can do for consumers.
The new Apple TV comes with a new remote that has a touchpad and sensors to be used for gaming like a Nintendo Wiimote. Apple has also updated the user interface of the new Apple TV that runs on the all-new tvOS. Siri is at the center of the Apple TV controls and delivers with universal search access to content across services and apps. How comprehensive that works remains to be seen.
