Gear VR Innovator Edition $110 off ahead of Gear VR 2015 Release

The Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition virtual reality goggles are $110 off at Best Buy today.

Best Buy is clearing its inventory of the Gear VR Innovator Edition virtual reality goggles ahead of the launch of the new 2015 Samsung Gear VR headset. The  Gear VR Innovator Edition's regular retail price is $199.99. Best Buy cuts $110 off the price and sells the Gear VR Innovator Edition for $89.99. This is $10 lower than the new Gear VR will sell for when it launches next month.

The Gear VR Innovator Edition works with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. While this Best Buy deal appears to be great, we advise consumers to wait for the new Gear VR 2015.

The Samsung Gear VR is 22% lighter than previous Gear VR Innovator Edition, and includes new foam cushioning to make the device more comfortable to wear. In addition, the Gear VR’s touchpad has been improved, providing greater control while enjoying the robust selection of film, gaming, 360 degree video and experiential content available for Gear VR.

The 310g light Gear VR headset has Accelerator, Gyrometer, Proximity (Mount/Unmount Detection) sensors. The field of view is 96 degrees. Compatible smartphones include Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, S6 and S6 edge.

Not only is the new Gear VR lighter and more comfortable, it also supports the larger Galaxy smartphones and the Note 5. The new Gear VR will go on sale in time for Black Friday 2015. There is no firm release date yet from Samsung. The company unveiled the new Gear VR at the Oculus developer conference in September.
