First Microsoft Flagship Store Opens Today

Microsoft opens it's first-ever flagship store in New York City on October 26.

Today is a huge Microsoft day. The company releases today the Surface Book, Surface Pro 4 and Halo 5: Guardians. On top of that Microsoft opens its first flagship store. Microsoft fans have now a new place of worship in New York on Fifth Avenue.

Microsoft will open the New York Flagship store with the release of new products including the huge Halo launch. To celebrate the new Microsoft store opening, the company will host a community concert Monday night with rapper Pitbull at Rockefeller Center.

To get tickets for the Pitbull concert, Microsoft fans will have to line-up early at the new Microsoft store. Two complimentary tickets will be distributed to the first 1,000 customers attending the grand opening on October 26.

Microsoft says that customers can line up as early as at 6:00am on October 26 in front of the Microsoft Store and Grand Opening ceremonies begin at 11:30 AM. Microsoft on Fifth Ave. and 53rd Street opens at 12:00 PM. Once the store opens, customers will receive their tickets and savings on products, including Xbox One at the lowest price of the season, as well as offers on the new Surface devices. Microsoft warns that quantities are limited.

Halo fans in New York can hit the concert first to shorten the wait until the midnight Halo 5 launch. The new flagship store will of course host a midnight Halo 5 launch. Fans will be able to meet 343 Industries developers.

The Microsoft Flagship store at 677 Fifth Ave., is one of more than 110 Microsoft stores across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. It is the first Microsoft Store to extend two stories, and at 22,269 square feet, is the largest to date. In comparison Apple has 265 stores in the United States.

The Microsoft flagship store team speaks a total of 19 languages, including Spanish, Hindi, Mandarin, Arabic and Russian, to help customers from New York and around the world.

As part of the flagship opening, Microsoft is donating more than $3 million in software and technology grants to 14 New York organizations, which are largely focused on education and helping youths.

“One of our goals, since we started the stores in 2009, was to have a real marquee location where we could bring an expanded retail presence. Frequently, we’re asked by customers, ‘When are you coming to my city?’ and New York has been one of the top requests. Waiting for that perfect real estate location, which we were able to secure last year, and building out the right footprint, is super exciting for us,” said Kelly Soligon, general manager, Worldwide Marketing, Microsoft Retail and Online Stores.

The flagship store also features an exterior culture wall, designed to display digital imagery representative of the vibrant Fifth Avenue shopping district culture. The culture wall—40 feet wide by 20 feet high—is part of Microsoft’s vision of becoming an integral member of the community. It will display non-commercial, artistic images that complement the building’s architecture and façade.

The location of the Microsoft Store - Fifth Avenue is at 677 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10022. This is between 53rd and 54th street. The new Microsoft flagship store opening hours are 9am to 9pm daily.
