The second OnePlus smartphone of 2015 is here. Meet the OnePlus X!
Young Chinese smartphone company OnePlus unveiled their second smartphone in 2015. Following the OnePlus 2, the OnePlus X is a design oriented mid-range Android smartphone. The OnePlus X channels the iconic Apple iPhone 5.
There are two versions. The Onyx is black and the Ceramic is a limited edition that incorporates ceramic material in the case design. OnePlus X Onyx is made from black glass on a metal bezel giving it that iPhone 5 appeal. The Ceramic version is crafted in a process totaling 25 days. Starting with a zirconia mold just 0.5 mm thick, the ceramic is fire-baked up to 2,700°F for more than 28 hours before cooling for two full days.
The OnePlus X has a 5-inch 1080p Active Matrix OLED screen with 441ppi. Other features of the OnePlus X include 13MP rear camera combined with f/2.2 aperture, Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM, dual SIM and microSD slot.
“Today’s smartphone user strives to find the perfect balance of style and performance. The OnePlus X is a design centric device chic and powerful enough to fit any lifestyle,” said OnePlus CEO Pete Lau.
The OnePlus X will launch in Europe and India on November 5th. The release in the United States will be later, about a week before Black Friday.
The OnePlus X Onyx will be available on oneplus.net with an invite in Europe starting November 5 at EUR 269, with a U.S. version to follow on November 19 for USD249.00. The Ceramic edition will be available with a Ceramic-specific invite in Europe and India starting November 24 for EUR 369. Only 10,000 OnePlus X Ceramic devices will be available.
OnePlus is changing the invite system for the OnePlus X launch. For the first month, the OnePlus X is available through invites only. In November, OnePlus will distribute invites much faster to its most loyal users, those who sign up for the reservation list, and shareables for their family and friends.
After the initial month, consumers will have many more opportunities to buy the OnePlus X. Every week the company will have open sales. After making sure that its production can keep up with the demand, the OnePlus X will be available without invites forever. Fans of OnePlus will be relieved to hear that the company is finally abandoning the invite system.
