He joined a new group of entertainment leaders called Hollywood United for a Healthy California that is pushing Governor Jerry Brown to move the state away from fossil fuels. The actor is an environmental activist opposing the process of hydro-fracking to extract natural gas. According to the actor, all the carbon should not be extracted for energy.
Ruffalo met Jon Bowermaster, few years back when they were both engaged in a fight to ban hydro-fracking in upstate New York where they lived. During that time the director was putting together ‘Dear Governor Cuomo’, a short documentary plea to New York State’s Andrew Cuomo to ban fracking there. Cuomo did so in late 2014 over health concerns.
Now as Obama’s plan for administration’s energy and climate change policies due out next year, Ruffalo and Bowermaster felt it was time to call out to the president and make him realize just how wrong his policies are.
Mark has signed on to narrate and executive produce the documentary Dear President Obama with Jon. The film, says the actor, is aimed for imploring President Obama to stop this ‘drill, baby, drill’, all of the above energy policy that he has taken our country on.
He told THR that you can’t have it both ways. You can’t keep pushing to take all the carbon out of the earth, which will be burned, while at the same time saying you believe in climate science. Mark elaborated that when you have the president saying that climate change is absolutely for real and we must do something about it, and then in the next breath he says we must start drilling in the Arctic circle even, one feels that there’s a huge disconnect, a cognitive dissonance. Obama’s own scientists are telling him we have to keep that carbon in the ground otherwise we are doomed.
The documentary will be looking at the health impacts of hydro-fracking. Scientific research on global warming and what can be done to move the U.S. to renewable sources of energy.
Jon has been shooting all over the United States talking with scientists, technologists and with folks who are living in the shadow of these extreme energy lands where hydro-fracking, cyclic steam, deep-sea drilling and all of these things are going on.
According to Ruffalo, what Obama and administration is doing is to stump down climate change as an issue taken care of. The policies being passed are completely politically willed and hinder any meaningful solutions that are cleaner and cheaper.
The policies being passed of under the guise of saving the environment are blinding people to seeing that they are actually ruining the clean recyclable resources which will be finished if they keep on going on the track they are currently pursuing.
