It has been found that canines can eradicate signs of worry in children. Pets it seems are very beneficial for the health of their owners.
The “Pet Effect” is very real as the latest studies prove over and over again. Kids who stroke and play with their dogs are less anxious. We all know that a dog is man’s best friend. So many families across the United States and the rest of the world have their pet pooches to frolic with in the living room.

These pet mutts run the gamut from funny puppies to fully-grown mischief-makers. But the fact is everyone may abandon you, but your dog will remain by your side till your last day on earth. Such is the capacity for loyalty this humble creature possesses.
Did you know that your kids also benefit from a little play time with these pet animals. A study observed 643 kids that were all above 18 months of age. Their anxiety levels were gauged and whether they possessed pet dogs or not was also noted down. The children underwent tests to monitor their levels of physical endurance, television viewing, mental toughness and time spent with their pets.
At least 58% of these children had pets at home. And of these merely 12% tested positive for high anxiety levels. In those without a pet, the percentage of anxiety levels rose to 21%. This is a significant difference.
It may be that this is due to correlation. Yet causation also seems the likely factor at work here. More thorough studies are needed to establish a proper link between the two. There have been cases of kids who are so small.
Yet the first word that escapes their mouths is the name of their dog. Thus this proves that emotional attachment to a pet especially a dog is very beneficial to mental health.
By alleviating anxiety symptoms in children, cases of obesity and mental illness in the young could be minimized. We are moving in the right direction as far as future planning is concerned.
By providing pets for children, their early stages of development could be facilitated. Merely interacting with a dog has been shown to reduce levels of cortisol – the stress hormone – in the human body.
Thus animal therapy is a valid and reliable method of warding of negative feelings of loneliness and isolation in children. There are those critics and skeptics who say that the studies are flawed.
But it is a fact that where human relationships have deteriorated, it is our animal cousins that come to the rescue by providing us with much-needed company and hours of amusement.
