Nearly 20,000 signed petation to remove Adam Lambert from a concert in Singapore.

More than 19,000 people have signed the petition to remove singer Adam Lambert from a New Year eve’s concert in Marina Bay, Singapore.

The petition is launched by a conservative group in the country and shows concern over the singer's gay, lewd acts during the live stage performance at the American Music Awards 2009 where he kissed a male keyboard player and his recent music video ‘Another Lonely Night’, which features male strippers performing in objectionable manner.

The group thinks it is highly likely that the singer will repeat those controversial acts in the forthcoming Countdown 2016 concert as well which is not suitable for a family friendly event like that.

Countdown 2016 is a popular, public event in Singapore where Singaporeans come together and celebrate New Year’s Eve. Performance by an openly gay singer in the event does not fit with the values and societal models of the country.

“We urge the organizers of Countdown 2016 to recognize and respect the values of the majority of Singapore that has voiced its desire to preserve our Nation’s moral fiber,” Petition reads.

“Adam Lambert is hardly the kind of performer to send off our historic Jubilee Year or to usher in the New Year. His track record displays a flagrant disregard for the sensitivities of his audience – including whether or not children are watching.”

“As parents and influencers of our young, we asked that extreme caution be exercised in selecting performs for the event. Adam Lambert is an inappropriate choice and reflects a lack of judgment that could turn an otherwise dignified family-friendly event into a situation that is offensive and potentially divisive.”

The group has petitioned everyone involved in organizing the concert event organizers, Ministry of Community, Culture and Youth and even the government of Singapore.

In the meantime, a counter-petition has been launched by Lambert supporters who desperately want to keep their beloved singer in the concert. The petitions already had more than 23,000 signatures on it.

The counter petition reads. “The opposing petition are anti-family and anti Singaporean values because their discrimination harm family members. We support real family values and real Singaporean values by being modern and inclusive.”

Adam Lambert was the runner-up at the eighth season of American Idol and is a vocal LGBT advocate.
