The plug-in hybrid minivan is not just the first of its kind, but also has a capacity of 80 miles per gallon.
Before Chrysler, the idea of a hybrid minivan had been mostly overlooked. The smart idea has finally been turned into a reality by Chrysler. Chrysler will unveil their first ever plugin hybrid minivan at the Detroit Auto show.

The plug-in version by Chrysler also comes with an estimated 80 miles per gallon equivalent. The 2017 plug-in hybrid minivan has been named Chrysler Pacifica.
Chrysler is calling the new vehicle Pacifica Hybrid, not Plug-In Hybrid. The reason for the omission in the name is the anxiety related with plug-ins. The Chrysler executives believe people hear ‘plug’ they get anxious about the range of the vehicle.
The range is not even an issue in the new Chrysler Pacifica minivan. The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica comes with a 16-kWh battery. If the battery runs out then the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine kicks in and the minivan functions as normal.
The battery when fully charged can deliver up to 30 miles of travel on electric power. The 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine is capable of 248 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque.
On a 240-volt plug, the battery only takes 2 hours to charge completely. The battery pack is situated underneath the floor in the middle of the van.
The Pacifica Hybrid is nearly identical to its gas-only version. Only a charge port on the driver's side front fender has been added. Similarly wheels in 17- and 18-inch sizes can be added to the vehicle. The Pacifica Hybrid only comes in Touring and Limited Platinum trims.
"Due to its large footprint and multiple daily trip patterns, the minivan is ideally suited for electrification technology," said Bob Lee, Vice President and Head of Engine, Powertrain and Electrified Propulsion Systems Engineering, FCA – North America.
"The all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica lives up to this promise and then some, with efficiency, power and refinement."
“The all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is truly a no-compromises minivan, giving customers everything they need or want,” said Timothy Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands, FCA - North America.
“We started from the ground up to design the most technologically advanced minivan, which offers bold styling, class-leading ride and handling, and unmatched fuel economy, with the Pacifica Hybrid delivering up to 80 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) in city driving. The all-new Chrysler Pacifica was thoughtfully designed and engineered to provide unsurpassed levels of comfort, convenience, technology and functionality, making it the perfect combination for modern families.”
