Chris Rock was asked by other African American celebrities to boycott the Oscars and his hosting duties while others say that he should pursue his role.
A number of African American actors and celebritiesare calling to boycott the Oscars over racial diversity issues. Spike Lee, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith have made official announcements that they will not be attending the Oscars this year.

They have also urged other actors of color to boycott the Oscars ceremony as racial activists are rallying up a major boycott under #OscarsSoWhite movement.
More actors, celebrities and technicians are devastated as none of the four acting categories have been able to nominate an actor of color for the second consecutive year.
As more celebrities join in on the boycott of the Oscars, all eyes come on one person to make decision. Chris Rock, the host of this year’s Oscars.
The announcement of Chris hosting the Oscars came almost a month before the Oscars voting started. There was no anticipation of such an incident occurring where racial diversification could become an issue.
Cheryl Issacs Boone probably asked Chris to host to make for a racially diverse show, according to NYDaily. Now as the boycott is on the rise, there I intense pressure on Chris to quit his hosting duties and boycott the Oscars as well.
He has already been asked publically by 50 Cent and Tyrese Gibson on their Twitter accounts to boycott the Oscars. According to the artists, they love Chris too much and he should not make them do something like the boycott to him.
Chris might be feeling the pressure, but he has people supporting him. Chris brother and comedian, Tony, has said in a statement that this is an excellent opportunity for Chris.
If Chris is on the stage, it will be like staring the diversity issue right in the face. It would be like Chris standing and delivering on a night when his fellow performers were not nominated which would be a statement in itself.
He said that Chris should dip into the big paycheck he will be getting for hosting the show and enjoy it. Ricky Gervais, who recently hosted the Golden Globes, faced bad press of his own before hosting the show.
He has said that Chris should definitely host the Oscars just to keep the Academy on the edge. He will be on live TV and he would have the greatest opportunity to make them nervous.
George Clooney went into an in-depth analysis of the whole situation saying that it was not a question of who got nominated, it was rather a question of why they didn’t get nominated. He said that there weren’t enough roles out there for colored actors among Oscar-worthy movies.

The decision is up to Chris. He has made no official statement except for labeling this year’s Oscars as White BET awards. Whether Chris will be hosting remains to be seen in the days to come.
