The GSMA Global Mobile Awards is here again, and this time, over 930 entries were made for the 2016 Glomo Awards scheduled to be held in Barcelona on February 22-25 during the annual Mobile World Congress, but only 285 nominees have been shortlisted in more than eight categories for over 40 awards.
"Congratulations to all of the nominees for the 2016 Glomo Awards,” said Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer for GSMA. “With more than 930 entries this year – a new record – the competition is greater than ever, reflecting the tremendous diversity and pace of innovation across the mobile world. We are particularly excited to be celebrating the 21st year of the awards with a dynamic new format that will recognize and honor achievement throughout Mobile World Congress.”
Some new awards have been added for this year, and these include “The Connected Life Awards”, “Best Mobile Apps” and “Best Mobile Handsets and Devices”, winners in these categories will be announced and presented during the event at Mobile World Live TV.
The ceremony for the 2016 Glomo Awards begins at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, February 23 at Hall 4, Auditorium 2, where awards presentations for “Best Mobile Technology”, “Best Mobile Services” and “Social and Economic Development” categories will be made.
Those to be nominated for the “Best New Handset, Tablet or Device at Mobile World Congress 2016” will be identified from the products put on display at the event, and the shortlisted nominees will be announced on Mobile World Live TV and the Global Mobile Awards website on February 24; and by February 25, the winner in this category will be presented live on Mobile World Live TV.
Furthermore, the event will recognize national governments around the world for their use of mobile technologies in the public sector and nominate them to win the “Government Excellence Awards”, while there will also be “Outstanding Achievement” awards that include the “Chairman’s Award” and an award for “Connected Women Leadership in the Industry”.

The Glomo Awards are judged by independent experts, analysts, journalists, academics and, in some cases, mobile operator representatives. The 2016 Glomo Awards sponsors and partners include Blancco Technology Group, Softonic, and Techradar, among others.
