An incidence of Zika Virus transmission through sex was reported in Texas. This is the first such unique case that has been pinpointed in the United States.

A Zika Virus case said to have been transmitted via sex was reported in Texas. This is the first such event to transpire in the United States where a mosquito bite was not the reason for the Zika Virus.

Instead sexual intercourse was the culprit behind the infection. And with this things have undergone even more complexity. Containing the virus will be even more of a difficulty now.

The infected person was said to be in Dallas and he had sex with a person who had returned from Venezuela. Venezuela is a hot bed where the Zika Virus is currently thriving.

After this event, the CDC has made a change of plans. Its advice to people touring regions where the Zika Virus is rampant is a little different this time around.

The males who choose to have sex while in these regions ought to consider using condoms just to be on the safe side, according to Reuters. At least this was a necessity under the current conditions. Maybe some time in the future such strictures would not apply.

Also among the guidelines given were special precautionary measures for pregnant women. They were not to come into contact with semen samples from infected men.

More rules and regulations were to be implemented in order to contain the virus. Pregnant women who got infected were more likely to give birth to infants that had developmental issues.

They had small heads and this condition was termed microcephaly. However, normally the Zika Virus is not a deadly illness. The symptoms only appear in a small percentage of the patients.

But nevertheless sexual transmission of this virus is something which was unforseen by the medical establishment. It adds a new dimension to the riddle of containment.

Now detection and prevention will be doubly difficult. Besides the mosquito control efforts, sex education will have to enter the equation. And while sexual transmission is possible, detection won’t be possible until a female gets pregnant.

Some say that sexual transmission is not as common as via the bite of a mosquito. Most of Latin America and the Caribbean is in the grip of Zika Virus right now. It will be a relief when this region gain freedom from this scourge which has spread panic in its wake.
