It seems that the Canadian government wants to conserve the large Great Bear Rainforest. This lush and green rain forest spans an area twice as large as Belgium.
Environmentalists are bucking up the Canadian government for the sincerity and support it has shown to their cause. Canada wants to protect and conserve over 85% of the Great Bear Rainforest.

This is situated in British Columbia and is being destroyed rapidly thanks to logging and encroaching human settlement. The rainforest is twice the size of Belgium, according to HuffingtonPost.
The government has struck a deal with the loggers and other agencies in order to conserve the forest’s pristine atmosphere. From now on only 15% of the area will be free for logging companies to engage in their operations of chopping down the trees.
Even here, a specific limited amount of wood can be removed for human use (such is the strictness of the deal). It is a sign of great hope.
In fact, it is almost like as if an economy were being generated within an ecosystem. Nobody wants the destruction of the environment and the government wants to chip in regarding this effort to protect the habitat.
There are 26 indigenous groups that live within the large area. They were included within the context of the agreement. The Great Bear Rainforest is also home to the Spirit Bear, a rare subspecies of black bear that has white fur.
The coordinator of Greenpeace Canada welcomed the efforts and had kind words tro say about the initiative. It has been a project that took 20 years to chalk out on the drawing board before getting implemented in reality.
For years and years, Greenpeace had arranged demonstrations and participated in blockades before its demands were finally met by the government and the logging companies.
Most other spots in the world have a protected area that comprises 1% or 2% of the larger region. To see such a huge area being conserved is a miracle and a big victory for the environmentalists.
The model under which this was arranged was based on solid science instead of on creative accounting. The time left to conserve the pure and lush green areas of the earth is limited.
So something must be done and fast. With this new triumph of the environmental movement, a precedent has been set for future times.
