Astronauts are to view the entertainment extravaganza that is the Super Bowl from aboard the ISS in outer space.

Astronauts will have their eyes glued to the screen while they are on board the ISS. They will be watching the Super Bowl. Now isn’t that a treat. Thus when the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers face off in the stadium, these men in space will be watching them very closely.

NASA astronauts Scott Kelly and Tim Kopra remain undecided as regards which side they are on in the match. But they will get time off from their work schedule aboard the ISS to watch the game with passion and gusto.

Kelly is a big fan of the Houston Texans though, according to That much is for sure. He already has the honor of viewing football on the occasion of Thanksgiving with his previous colleague Kjell Lindgren.

The good thing is that the crew of the ISS will be able to view the Super Bowl while it occurs on a real time basis (live) from its source. This is a luxury and a privilege indeed.

This Sunday when the Super Bowl will occur is an off day for the crew of the ISS. They will just participate in a few exercises and be at leisure to do what they want. And what can be better than watching the Super Bowl from so many miles away in outer space.

The ISS has a lot of similarities with the Super Bowl. For one thing, its arms, which stretch out in all directions, have dimensions that are equal to the stadium employed in the Super Bowl.

And let us not forget that it was NASA which created the basic materials from which football helmets are made of.  Besides this, six years ago, the coin which was used for the toss-up in the Super Bowl, had flown 4 million miles aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis.

After Sunday passes along with the Super Bowl, the astronauts will be back on duty. It will be business as usual and things will get back to normal.

Scott Kelly and Mikhail Kornienko just have a month left before the end of their missions aboard the ISS. There are others on board. Among their ranks are: Tim Kopra, Tim Peake, Yuri Malenchenko and Sergey Volkov.

Super Bowl 50 will take place on February 7, 2016, in Santa Clara, at the Levi's Stadium. The stadium is the home of the home of the San Francisco 49ers. Super Bowl 50 will be topping all previous Super Bowl's because of the anniversary. Read our Super Bowl 50 Facts to learn everything important about Super Bowl 50.
