  • Kia introduces the latest 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid (HEV)!

The 2017 HEV is part of Kia’s sub-brand EcoDynamics line-up for the Chicago Auto Show.

The 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid (HEV) was released at the Chicago Auto Show. The Optima HEV has the same design of the Optima sedan but with a new hybrid powertrain.

The powertrain targets a 10 percent improvement in fuel economy. The interior and the exterior of the Optima HEV is nearly same as the conventional gas-powered model.

The Optima HEV adds modern styling and a premium driving experience to the mix. Similarly the Optima HEV is more focused on fuel efficiency. The Optima HEV is part of the EcoDynamics environmentally friendly line-up.

The new Optima HEV has a compact 2.0-liter GDI four cylinder engine. The engine is capable of an estimated 154 horsepower and at 6000 rpm the horsepower can go up to 193. The Optima HEV engine is coupled with a hybrid starter generator.

A smooth-shifting six-speed transmission also assists the engine. Similarly the Optima HEV comes with a 38 kW electric motor and clutch. Additionally a new electric water pump and a new electric oil pump have been added.

Both the water and oil pump improve overall fuel economy. The electric motor is further assisted by a high-density lithium-polymer battery pack. The battery adds a 13-percent increase in capacity taking it to 1.62 kWh. 

The body of the Optima HEV has a 50 percent Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) construction. Various high-tensile strength steel alloys have been used to create a stiffer vehicle. Furthermore new trims and an 'EcoHybrid' badge give the Optima HEV a distinctive edge.
